Gum Diseases &
Periodontology

The foundation of a perfect smile and healthy teeth is strong gums. We resolve your gum bleeding, gum recession, and bad breath problems at their root.

What is Periodontology?

Periodontology is the dental specialty aimed at maintaining the health of the tissues surrounding the teeth (gums, periodontal ligament, jawbone) and treating diseases that occur in these tissues. No matter how healthy and decay-free your teeth are, tooth loss is inevitable if the supporting gum and bone structure is diseased.

If the condition known commonly as "gum inflammation" (Gingivitis) is not treated, the disease progresses into "Periodontitis", which melts the jawbone and causes teeth to loosen and fall out. Bleeding gums, bad breath, loose teeth, and gum recession are the clearest symptoms of these diseases.

Why is Gum Treatment So Important?

  • Prevents Tooth Loss: The biggest cause of tooth loss in adults is not cavities, but gum diseases.
  • Ends Bad Breath: Stubborn bad breath caused by inflammation and bacteria completely disappears.
  • Stops Bleeding: Bleeding and aching that occur spontaneously or while brushing are healed.
  • Protects General Health: There is a direct relationship between gum inflammation and heart diseases or diabetes.

Periodontal Treatments We Apply

1

Scaling (Tartar Cleaning)

It is the first stage of gum disease treatment. Hardened tartar and stains accumulated on the tooth surface and gum line are completely cleaned with special ultrasonic devices without harming the tooth enamel, followed by polishing.

2

Curettage (Deep Root Cleaning)

If the tartar has descended below the gum line down to the root surfaces (pocket formation), it is applied under local anesthesia. Inflamed tissues and stones on the root surface are cleaned, allowing the gum to firmly reattach to the tooth.

3

Surgical and Regenerative Procedures

These are procedures such as flap operations applied in very advanced cases, adding bone powder (graft) to replace melted bone, or covering the area with soft tissue grafts in cases of severe gum recessions.

Frequently Asked Questions

Things you might wonder about gum diseases and cleaning.

Does tartar (calculus) cleaning damage tooth enamel?

This is one of the most common misconceptions among the public. The cleaning process performed with special ultrasonic instruments in a clinical setting definitely does not scratch or thin the tooth enamel. On the contrary, if tartar is not cleaned, it causes gum recession and bone loss, leading to tooth loss.

Is it normal to have bleeding while brushing teeth?

It is absolutely not normal. Just as our hands do not bleed when we wash them, healthy gums do not bleed when brushing. Bleeding is the first and most important symptom of gum inflammation (gingivitis). It should be treated without wasting time.

Is curettage (deep cleaning) treatment painful?

Deep cleaning (curettage) is always performed under local anesthesia (regional numbing). Therefore, you will not feel any pain during the procedure. After the procedure, there may be very slight aching in the gums, which goes away on its own within a few days.
