Long-Lasting
Porcelain Inlay & Onlay
For teeth with large decays or material loss, we provide maximum durability with digital porcelain fillings prepared in the laboratory without completely reducing the tooth.
What is Inlay and Onlay (Porcelain Filling)?
A lot of tissue loss can occur as a result of large decays or traumas in the teeth. In these cases, standard composite (light-cured) fillings may be insufficient, but completely reducing the tooth and making a crown can also be an overly aggressive procedure. Inlay and Onlay restorations are the most ideal solution that fills this gap between a filling and a crown.
Unlike the fillings applied directly in the mouth by the physician in the clinic; they are custom-produced from high-strength porcelain (E-Max or Zirconium) in a laboratory environment by taking an impression. They perfectly complete the missing part of the tooth just like a puzzle piece.
What are the Advantages of Porcelain Fillings (Inlay/Onlay)?
- Superior Durability: They do not wear out over time or break with chewing force like composite fillings.
- Protects Tooth Tissue: The remaining intact walls of the tooth are not cut; only the damaged area is repaired.
- Perfect Fit: Since it is produced with digital impressions, it does not leak between the filling and the tooth, preventing new decay formation.
- Color Stability: Because they are made of porcelain, they do not yellow due to coffee or tea even as years pass.
How Does the Treatment Process Work?
Cleaning the Decay and Impression
Under local anesthesia, the decay and old fillings in your tooth are completely cleaned. A precise impression of the prepared tooth cavity is taken with 3D digital intraoral scanners.
Temporary Filling Application
Until your porcelain piece is produced in the laboratory, the cavity is covered with a temporary filling to prevent your tooth from experiencing sensitivity.
Permanent Bonding
The porcelain inlay/onlay coming from the laboratory is rehearsed in the mouth. After checking the height and marginal adaptations, it is permanently integrated into your tooth with special adhesive cements.

Things you might wonder about Inlay and Onlay porcelain fillings.
What is the difference between Inlay and Onlay?
Both are made with the same method and material. The only difference is the area they cover. Inlay fillings stay between the cusps on the chewing surface of the tooth. Onlay fillings are made wider to cover one or more cusps of the tooth in cases of greater destruction.
Why should I get a porcelain inlay/onlay instead of a normal filling?
Traditional composite fillings may break over time in very large cavities as they cannot withstand chewing forces, or micro-gaps (leakage) may form between them and the tooth due to polymerization shrinkage, starting decay underneath again. Since porcelain fillings are produced in the laboratory, they never shrink, provide perfect adaptation, and protect the weakened tooth from breaking.
How long does Inlay/Onlay treatment take?
The treatment usually takes 2 sessions. In the first session, the tooth is prepared and an impression is taken. After the laboratory phase taking 3-4 days, it is permanently bonded in the second session.
